Just out of curiosity, does anyone "like" Carney?

Eastern Canada seems to like him. Western Canada, especially Alberta, not so much. Canada is changing quickly now. It started with the election of Justin Trudeau. Many folks think he's damaged the country during his terms. Carney seems detached.

The facts are that he's dealing with a strategic economic challenge on a very large scale, in terms of strategy points, variables etc.

The problem with politics today is that people trust the same gut-level instant decisions on politics that they use to select a brand of shampoo in the supermarket.

"He seems detached" isn't helpful...

How does, "He seems...weak and incapable of independent thought" sound?

Incapable of independent thought? Hardly.
I can see how someone would complain that his elbows aren't high enough, but I think he's got to play the cards he has as well as he can play them. We've already seen how Ford's "strong" approach just made things worse. The "sleeping next to an elephant" analogy was always accurate. Now the elephant is demented and angry and destructive. Going on the attack won't work. You just have to slowly back away.

Trump is determined to devastate Canada so the US can annex us. He's been quite open about it. He also doesn't give a crap whether it's Carney governing or Pollievre.

I trust Carney's judgement more so than Pollievre in navigating us through this. The fact that all conservatives are rage baiting and saying literally than 'we should roll over' because the US is a giant just confirmed my belief.

He's not perfect, there's a lot I don't agree with him about -- but 100% he's the man to handle Trump 2.0.

I don’t care for Carney because he is very, very much a conservative, but he obviously knows economics better than most anyone, and since we now have to rebuild our economy, he seems way more qualified than peepee could ever be.
Besides, why would anyone trust the far right with anything ever again?

What Conservative far right government are you referring to?

Nice scare tactic. But there is no "far right" in the CPC.

Poilievre would reduce regulations and open up the oil and gas patch. That would produce a massive financial boom for the whole nation. Will "Elbows Up" Carney do that? Doubtful.

Canada "should" be incredibly wealthy. Our economy "should" be booming. Instead we languish and stagnate under the leadership of weak minds who have not got Canada's interests at heart.

.

No he won't..

And Poilievre is definitely drifting into MAGA territory. He is trying to be Trumo, but failing miserably at it.

The CPC is a far right party top to bottom. At least on social issues. On economic issues, they are much like the UCP and OPC: a conduit to ytranbsfer public wealth into the handsof their friends and cronies in the private sector and nothing else.

Oil and gas production in Canada is currently at levels we've never seen before and the current pipeline capacity is still not maxed out. There's no appetite for spending billions on capital projects that will take decades to come online with a signifcant risk of being stuck with an expensive stranded asset. The only way a pipeline gets built is if the government does it, which means taxpayers footing the bill and holding the bag.

Canada is incredibly wealthy it's just that most of that wealth has been siphoned off by corporate shareholders.

The shitshow down south, but I don't think you can really call them conservative.

Call me crazy but I think the lack of any viable centre or centre-left party in this country is bad.

Yes, but we don’t have that luxury when we need to unite against fascism. There are still a few anti-fascist conservatives left and it’s probably a good idea to do what it takes to keep them from going to the dark side too.
